It is Never Late, Live your Passion!

Just this day, the faculty had a sharing about different things. We started from announcements, reminders, self improvement, up to a more personal sharing about passion.

The new set of educators in Golden Link College were all diverse, witty and talented. Some of us shared our insights on how do we observe our improvements in the aspect of teaching. As the discussion went through, we realized that one of the factors that could boost our development and effectiveness as a teacher is our "Passion". Passion is our excitement toward a certain field or course of learning. There are teachers who shared that they wanted to inspire students to become the best that they can be and it made them happy whenever they were able to do that. As we opened the possibility of building clubs, many teachers asked about building groups to join some programs and tournaments. One of the teachers shared his passion in coaching students about sports, particularly in badminton, and the group was inspired by him. Another teacher shared about her learning that teachers do not just teach the subject, they become the main lesson, themselves. In other words, teachers teach who they are, either consciously or unconsciously, and students absorb it, even the teacher's sense of passion.

One of the teachers also shared that her passion is in business administration and economics rather than history which she is currently teaching. We learned that she was just pushed by her mother to take up Education because that was what they want her to be. But deep inside, she would like to take Business. In that case, we advised her to pursue whatever it is that she likes the most. She was told that one's bachelor's degree should not be a limit for us to pursue what we really want. We can still be a good history teacher while we become one of the best economics teacher. It is not impossible, because we have a very powerful weapon.. our Passion.

Image result for PassionHuman passion is one of the most powerful energies we have in nature. It is transitory, but it could last for a long time or even in a lifetime if we water it with excitements. Human Passion can bring us to our dreams. If we neglect our passions then, we may find ourselves miserable finding out that we are living in vain.

Here are the thoughts which we could ponder why we should take our passion with great consideration:

1) We only live once!
It is the fact that there are no photocopies of us in this particular point of time. We are living once! so why bother living in the dictation of our family or the community. If we die, we die alone, so better to live our life according to the beat of our hearts. Otherwise, in the end, when we are about to leave this world, what we are about to tell our grandchildren is a fake life of your "lola" or "lolo".

2) We are unique and one of a kind
This is very prevalent among Disney movies! Yes, we are special and we are very unique. If we let others take control of our lives, we are unconsciously putting a brand on top of our head, saying.. "Hey dude, I am a product of her/him". If you buy a brand of coffee, you will not think that one bottle is different from the other one, because they have the same brand name. However, we know that coffee can have different types, we may have cappuccino, latte, mocha etc. and we know that each one is not the same with others. The same thing with our character, we are unique, and that uniqueness can fuel up our passions!

3) We are seeds that God wants to grow.
If God is a farmer, and i am a little sprout of munggo. I am hundred percent sure, that the farmer wants me to grow as a munggo plant, not a tulip or a corn. He will water me, and feed me with nutrients, but perhaps, we tried to mimic other plants than being a mungo, the farmer will not be very happy with me, and I might be pull out from his nursery tray.

4) Defeat self doubt and social approval
In buddhism, there was a teaching that the number one enemy is our own self. In Christianity, it was taught that "We should love our enemy". These teach us that in order to be successful, we have to control and love who we are. Our passion is not an accident, it was given and manifested in us. Our role is to recognize and grow it for the benefit of ourselves and of others.

5) Just enjoy the ride!
Look at Mahatma Ghandi, of Mother Teresa, even Nick Vujicic. They have learned to live in their passion and made these undying and supreme passion drive their character to make a difference. Our capacity may not be as grand if we compare it with others, but as the story of the man throwing starfishes on the beach says, "I may not make impact greatly, but hey, i can make a difference on one." Let us start honing our passions, meditate and listen. The ride is not very easy, we have to give time and go against the dictation of our family and society. In the long run, you will realize that it is more fun to be a frog, who jumps, than a camel who swims.

Live your passion. Reflect, reflect, reflect! =)
To be honest, I never chosen Education when i was choosing for my career in college. I was just advised by my cousins and parents to pursue it. But my thinking continued and when time came when i already know what i want to be, i stick to it, and learned to enjoy it. I stayed in the field of education, because i realized that my passion jives on its field. I would like to be an inspiration to the next generation and the best way to do it is through teaching.

That is why i would like that, at certain point of our time, we find chance to philosophize. Let us give a space for our real-self to manifest. There are times that we please others, and we let them somehow handle our steer, but we have to make a borderline where our freewill will really be practiced irregardless of factors. If we really feel passionate about something... Pursue it, fight for it, learn from it.. and do no forget the last thing... Teach and Inspire the next generation!
