Change and Choice

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference, living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; taking this world as it is and not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen."
− Reinhold Niebuhr

There is one thing that is permanent in this world; change. No matter how hard we try, we cannot have total control of everything that will happen to us.

If you felt disappointed because your field trip was cancelled due to bad weather, the field trip will remain cancelled unless the weather becomes okay --crying serves no purpose in this case. There are things that we cannot change no matter what we do; there are sickness that has no cure, time cannot be brought back once it is lost, you cannot force other people to love you, you cannot wish someone to give you an apology or change the country where you were born. Some are given to us by purpose, and we, being sad or depressive to the things that we do not have control with, is an unwise act.

Rather than focusing on things we do not have control with, we can direct our energies to the things we can change. For instance, rather than waiting for someone to make an apology, why not talk to the person and process your hurt. Rather than be depressive of the stormy day, why not just relax yourself and decide a good deal to do while it rains. We always have a choice.

Deciding on things we have control with, is a wise choice to change our disappointments on things we do not have control with. This brings us to the present moment; this maximize our abilities, enjoy our strengths and accept our limitations and flaws.

Every day, we are embarking on life challenges. There are fights we need to lose, but there are fights we can win. Avoid getting stuck on battles we are not supposed to fight, there we may find ourselves fighting a duel we cannot win.

Light and Love,
NosredJohn
